Today students are receiving their GCSE results across England and Wales. This is the conclusion of years of work and study. However, having had exams cancelled owing to COVID-19 for a second year, understandably students and their parents have been questioning how their grades were arrived at this year and what that means for them.

Exams regulators have insisted the process for determining GCSE results has been fair and thorough.

Teachers submitted grades using evidence such as coursework, mock exams and other tests. Exam officials have said that there were multiple chances for pupils to show their best potential and that no-one would have lost out from having a bad day in an exam.
