Richard Berry is a trainer, advisor, speaker, coach and mentor specialising in:
- School leadership and developing teams
- Team-Teach training and understanding student behaviour
- Safeguarding and Mental Health First Aid
Having developed a career leading mainstream schools facing challenging circumstances, Richard subsequently moved into special education. This enabled him to refocus on common causes of poor behaviour and disaffection as well as a myriad of other issues facing SEMH schools.
Reading and learning about developments in neuro-science, through his daily interactions with some very troubled young people, Richard directly observed and managed the effects of neglect and lack of attachment and nurture on the developing brain.
Richard is a huge advocate of nurture programmes such as The Thrive Approach, Trauma Informed Practice, Bounce Therapy and others as he has seen first-hand just how successful they can be in giving these young people self-belief, confidence, skills and aspiration. Only then can they begin to learn across a varied and inclusive curriculum.
Richard also has extensive experience in Safeguarding within schools and sports clubs and believes this should also include Mental Health First Aid awareness for everyone working with young people.
Passionate about helping young people fulfil their potential through developing their self-confidence and resilience, Richard does this through inspiring and empowering those adults who support them by expanding their knowledge and understanding.
