The Elementa team are all set to join in with the 2019 Healthy Eating Week with water bottles on hand ready to ‘drink plenty’!
Today is the first day of The British Nutrition Foundation’s 2019 Healthy Eating Week which runs from 10th – 14th June. Healthy Eating Week aims to raise awareness for the charity as well as how to eat more healthily, and consequently to live a better life.
Healthy Eating Week involves organisations across the UK (including workplaces, universities, and schools) to focus on healthy eating and drinking, as well as physical activity and healthy living.
Central to Healthy Eating Week are five health challenges:
- Have breakfast
- Have 5 A DAY
- Drink plenty
- Get active
- Sleep well
A school that we are working with have noticed many of their children are not getting breakfast before coming to school. It is a simple truth that hungry children will find it much more difficult to learn and concentration levels will also be affected.
We are helping to raise money to provide toast for every child in this school that we are working with each day until the end of the School year. Hopefully we will continue into the next academic year, but our current priority is providing toast until July.
Hungry children will not fully engage with lessons and education. We want to support these children and to help them to achieve their best.
Promoting health in the workplace as well as Schools
Promoting health is beneficial to employees as well as employers.
Approximately 131 million working days are lost to sickness absence and 200,000 owing to insufficient sleep in the UK each year. Additionally, around 1 in 6 employees in the UK currently experience mental health problems.
BNF Healthy Eating Week is developed by the British Nutrition Foundation and supported by the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), Danone UK, Garfield Weston Foundation, Greggs, innocent drinks, Quorn Foods and Waitrose.
