International School Library Month (ISLM) is celebrated around the world throughout October every year. It’s a great time for children to visit their own school library and browse through the variety of books available to them.

ISLM is an opportunity for those in charge of school libraries to choose a day, week, or even the entire month during October to acknowledge the importance of school libraries and to celebrate all that is great about them.

International School Library Month logoOrganised by the International Association of School Librarianship, the theme of this year’s event is “Let’s Imagine”. It is based on the 2019 IASL conference theme of “Convergence – Empowerment – Transformation: School Libraries”. Participants are being invited to think about and celebrate the link between books, reading and school libraries and the imagination.

School libraries play an essential role in transforming learning. No matter how big or small your school library please do consider getting involved. ISLM is open to everybody, whether or not you are a member of the International Association of School Librarianship.
