Let’s get planting with National Children’s Gardening Week!

Doug - National Children's Gardening WeekThis year’s National Children’s Gardening Week takes place over the May half term between 25th May and 2nd June. This is a great time to encourage children to be outdoors and engage with nature.

The aim of National Children’s Gardening Week is to encourage as many schools, children and their families to be participating, gardening as well as having fun in their gardens.

National Children’s Gardening WeekChildren enjoy growing plants and being in the garden, however, they’re often impatient to see results right away. By choosing the ‘warm’ week at the end of May each year, National Children’s Gardening Week aims to capture children’s enthusiasm at a time when results are immediate. Also, this means that in most of the UK children can plant the popular plants with little chance of weather damage.

Polly - National Children’s Gardening Week

National Children’s Gardening Week is an annual festival celebrating and promoting the fun that gardens hold for kids. It’s embraced in homes, schools, and community groups across the country, and supports the amazing Greenfingers charity, which is dedicated to providing magical gardens for children in hospices suffering from life limiting illnesses. Greenfingers create beautiful, well-designed outdoor spaces for children to enjoy with their family and friends through play and fun as well as therapeutic rest and relaxation.

Further details are on their website at www.childrensgardeningweek.co.uk. where you will also find a range of fun garden projects and activities. These include: edible hanging baskets, crazy heads, pizza wheels, robot composters, bamboo tipis, recycled gardens and much more.
